Renovations
It is important to plan renovations, make a budget and investigate whether you need any council approvals before starting. New builds, extensions and structural changes often need approval, some of which are approved quickly, whereas minor alterations and additions are often exempt from needing any approvals. Further information on development applications and approvals can be obtained from your local council or state planning body.

Be realistic with the types of jobs you can complete yourself based on your skills and available time and where you will need to hire a licensed tradesperson. It is recommended to use licensed tradespeople for certain jobs, which may also be required by law in some states, to ensure your safety such as builders, plumbers and electricians.

If you are planning a large renovation it might be easier to hire a qualified builder or project manager who can coordinate the individual trades, manage the entire job and plan the order in which the renovations should be completed.
